Chanukah, also known as Hanukkah, might be hard to spell but is always fun to celebrate. This eight-day and -night Jewish holiday takes place sometime between late November and late December, and is also known as the Festival of Lights. The Hebrew remembrance commemorates the rededication during the second century B.C. of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem, where according to legend Jews had risen up in the Maccabean Revolt against the Seleucid Empire. Chanukah, which means "dedication" in Hebrew, begins on the 25th of Kislev on the Hebrew calendar. It is celebrated by playing with the four-sided spinning tops known as dreidel, eating oil-based foods, saying special prayers and singing songs, maybe giving out some gelt as gifts to children and teachers, and surely sending out beautiful, blessed and loving and laughing greeting cards of Thanks to any of your family members, friends or coworkers who celebrate the Feast of Dedication and who have done something extra-special for you or given you a great gift.
